Board and Batten Spacing Calculator
Planning a board and batten accent wall? Enter your wall width, the width of the boards you’re using, and your preferred gap size — this tool works out exactly how many boards you need and the precise, evenly-spaced gap to use so your layout looks professional and symmetrical from corner to corner.
How This Calculator Works
Most professional board and batten layouts use equal spacing between every board, including the gaps at the far left and right edges of the wall. This calculator finds the number of boards that gets you as close as possible to your target gap, then recalculates the exact spacing so every gap — including the ends — is identical.
Standard batten widths are usually 2.5″–3.5″ for a classic look, or up to 5″–6″ for a bolder, modern style. Typical gap spacing ranges from 6″ (tighter, more traditional) to 12″–16″ (wider, more modern/minimal).
